How To Create An Etsy Banner

If there's one thing we all know about Etsy shops, it's this: your Etsy banner is the first thing a potential customer will lay their eyes on when visiting your shop. That's why it's extremely important you use it to capture their attention, create a cohesive brand experience, and offer them a taste of the types of products they can expect.

Types of Etsy Banners

Big Banners

These are the largest size banner you can have on Etsy, taking up prime real estate at the top of your shop page. They should be 3360 x 840 pixels for optimal quality, or a minimum of 1200 x 300 pixels.

Big Banners might be, well – big – but you certainly won't want that space to go to waste. Use it to showcase your cohesive branding, photos of your most popular products, links to your website or social media, or special promotions and sales.

Mini Banners

These banners might be small, but don't underestimate how effective they can be for your Etsy shop. Mini banners measure 1200 x 160 pixels at their smallest, but shift your listings and shop icon higher up on the page to help them share some of that much-needed attention.

Mini banners can still showcase all of the elements listed above (branding, popular products, links, and promotions) – just on a smaller scale. Unlike Big Banners, however, Mini Banners do not appear on mobile devices.

Carousel Banners

Sellers who have subscribed to Etsy Plus also have the option to feature a Carousel Banner on their shop.

These allow you to add up to 4 different Big Banners for shoppers to scroll through at the top of your shop page. You can also link a banner image to a specific listing or shop section.

Collage Banners

Just like Carousel Banners, Collage Banners are available to Etsy Plus subscribers. It allows you to create a customized banner using between two and four different images.

This is a great way to show your most popular or newest listings, increasing your chances of snagging a sale from the moment a customer even looks at your shop.

Order Receipt Banners

Your Order Receipt Banner measures 760 x 100 pixels, and although it doesn't appear on your actual shopfront, it is featured at the top of your order receipts. Therefore, you'll want it to set a professional and on-brand tone to end your customer's buying experience on a positive note.

How to Create an Etsy Banner

Ready to make your own Etsy banner? Go to the Etsy Banner Maker and choose which type of Etsy banner you want to make – Big, Mini, or Order Receipt. You'll find all the banner categories in the menu on the left. For this tutorial, we'll be using a Big Banner template.

The first thing you'll want to do is edit your template's existing text, so it reflects your own Etsy shop's details. To do this, click on any text box on your template twice and type what you wish for it to say.

You can also customize the look of your banner's existing text, if you wish, by selecting any textbox with your mouse. When you click on a text box, a Text Properties toolbar appears, allowing you to alter elements such as Font, Font Size, Color, Spacing, and more. To change the color, select the Text Color tile to gain access to the Color Palette and select your desired shade from here. You can also input the Color HEX Code if you know it or use the Eyedropper Tool to choose a color already present in your template.

Next, you should swap out the template's existing photos for those resembling your own brand or products. To do this, click on the image and then select Replace from the Image Properties toolbar which appears and choose a file from your Computer to replace the image with.

Alternatively, you can navigate to Image Manager from the main menu on the left (the top icon) and upload your desired image from your computer, Facebook, or BeFunky. Then, simply drag-and-drop the image thumbnail from your upload to replace the existing image on the template.

If you want to change the existing background color of your Etsy banner to make it more on-brand, navigate to the Customize tab in the main menu and select a Background Color swatch of your choosing. You can also click on the first swatch to open the Color Palette and this will let you select any background color you want. Alternatively, type in the specific Color HEX Code or use the Eyedropper Tool.

Finally, you have the option to add additional graphics to your Etsy banner, such as shapes, lines, social media icons – you name it! To access the Graphic library, click on Graphics (the heart symbol) in the main menu. To customize the graphics already on your template, simply click on them to adjust color options and more with the Graphic Properties menu that appears.

Once your Etsy banner design is complete, you'll want to save it before adding it to your shop! Click Save at the top to save your work to your Computer, as well as Facebook, Dropbox, and more.

If you want to come back to your shop banner at a later date (i.e. to update the photos or add information about a new promotion), then we also recommend the Save as Project option (which lets you save it as an editable BeFunky Project file to your BeFunky account or Computer).

Create a Cohesive Brand Experience

Click and drag to rearrange any elements, if required, then save your Facebook Cover so it's ready to upload to your Etsy shop's Facebook page. Too easy!
